CSS Mastery is up there with my all time favorite web design and dev books. Written by web legend Andy Budd, this book doesn't dissapoint. It's packed full of step by step tutorials covering all the basics to get you started right the way up to CSS grid, flex box layout and animations with transitions and transforms. After going through this book, you'll be well on your way to creating any web layout you can imagine.

This one sits on my shelf next to my desk and is a good reference to dip into now and again for a refresher on topics like psudo classes, selectors and elements. Overall a great book that will give you a solid foundation in CSS.

I love this book! This was my first taste of web development, I couldn't put it down. A door stopper of a book, I went through it cover to cover during the evenings in 2 weeks. It's fun, engaging, and packed full of excercises, quizzes, crosswords and ways to make the content covered really really stick.

One of the hurdles for many large technical books is, most of the time they are a chore to get through, but this book was really fun and at times laugh out loud funny, you'll be groaning out loud with the silly jokes and stories throughout, the best thing is this book makes concepts stick.

Javascript everywhere is a really good book that covers a huge amount of ground. You work through one main project, with offshoots of that project being built on other Javascript environments.

The main project is a 'Social note' application. As you work through you'll build a React version, a React Native mobile version, and also bundle it all up into an electron cross platform desktop app.

I found the writer a great teacher, he was able to explain complex topics easily... no easy feat! You'll learn Graph QL, React, React Native and Electron. While not a definitive guide, you'll get a good understanding of what is involved in building a React app that uses GraphQL to query your api. It doesn't go into great detail on most on the platforms, but it's enough to get you excited about whats possible and get you building things in a short space of time.

Although outdated, this book still has a lot of useful information.There is a very good section on the liquid templating language which is essential for you to know your way around if you intend to work with Shopify. It also gives you a good understanding of everything involved in building a Shopify theme I've only given it a 4 as although a very good overall foundation on the topic, some sections I felt were brushed over and could have been explained in more detail.

In all honesty though, If I were starting to learn theme development from scratch, I'd spend more time in the Shopify Docs, they are very good and things are built differently now. I guess one of the drawbacks of this kind of book, is the tech moves so fast, things become outdated very quickly. Maybe don't rush out to buy this one. But it's here as it was a great resource a few years ago.
